Affordable Housing Pilot | Keys to Recovery

A pro-bono pilot project exploring how small apartments can become genuine homes for adults transitioning out of chronic homelessness after addiction treatment.

Keys to Recovery provides permanent supportive housing—an apartment and whatever support residents need to maintain sobriety and regain independence. This design study asks: how can a small space support healing, recovery, and growth?

The design replaces undifferentiated open space—which often brings disorder and chaos—with dedicated areas for living, sleeping, cooking, and eating. Every element serves both function and emotional wellbeing: space optimization, mood-uplifting colours, warmth, and a sense of belonging. A nurturing environment where residents can build a new life.
