Align Your System With The Fall Season

As we step into the fall season, it's time to align our lives’ rhythm and interiors with the season. The days get shorter, our energy levels start to slow down, and we might need a good rest after an active, busy summer. At home, there are simple and easy things we can do to remind ourselves and our system of the season’s change and stay connected with nature and its cycle in this transition.

The first and most important thing is to adjust our sleep schedule. We need to be mindful of our bodies’ needs after long summer days and spending plenty of time outdoors. We might also go back to a healthy routine that we neglected during summer vacation.

Pay attention to your meditation spot and ensure it is well set up and inviting. You can add warm colours and more candles to make it harmonious with the season.

For the home decor, there is no need to make major transformations like changing the paint or furniture. Small changes can go a long way and will bring interest and variety to your life as well as bringing the season into your indoor life.

First, I want to clarify that fall colours don’t mean orange and pumpkin; that is a possibility; however, warm colours, in general, work great for the season, such as some tones of peach and gold; teal, aubergine and olive green work beautifully as complementary/secondary colours.

Area Rugs

Add area rugs with warm colours or soft textures, or replace cool-coloured rugs for the season. Use a warm beige or off-white wool thick rug if you prefer to stay within the natural colour palette.

I remember as a little girl growing up in Syria, the big wool rugs came out of the storage by mid-fall and were spread on every room’s floor. Not only were they nice to walk on and provided warmth for the feet, but they were all strong, warm colours, primarily red and red-orange. The house changed complety as we were moving into the colder season.

Art & Wall Decor

Art can have a significant impact when strategically placed, whether it's a single large piece or a collection. It's also an opportunity to play with colours. For example, if you are using tones of orange and red, consider integrating two tones of teal. As a warm blue, teal can balance the orange and red palette. A yellow-green is also an excellent colour to integrate. If you want to do something out of the conventional, integrate gold in the wall art as well as in throw pillows

Throws, Pillows and Flower Arrangements

The oldest trick in the book, and it works! Get those pillows out if you have them already, or get creative with new ones.

And Don’t Forget The Bedroom!

It’s good to have a set of bedding with warm colours and soft textures for the cold seasons.

With the shift of seasons, I love the change of scenery outdoors and indoors. It ignites energy and prevents monotony in our surroundings. It fosters a connection with the natural world, allowing us to adapt to its changing colours, rhythms, and cycles. For the seasonal decor, I lean towards subtlety and small details; after all, it's not Christmas!
